This sign is made entirely of wood.
You are offerding on an extremely old, ANTIQUE wooden sign from the Myrtle Avenue elevated.
The Myrtle Avenue El originally opened in December of 1889, carrying passengers from Metropolitan Avenue in Queens, through Brooklyn, and over the Brooklyn Bridge to Park Row in Manhattan.
Direct service to Manhattan was discontinued in the 1930s.
The portion of the elevated south of Broadway in Brooklyn was closed on October 4, 1969.
This sign would have been hanging under the platform for passengers on the opposite platform to read.
The sign measures 43 inches wide, 10 inches tall, and 1 inch deep.
Please carefully review the photos.
Great for bar or restaurant, dorm room, den, etc. Makes a unique gift that you can't buy at Sears or Target (leave the wife a hint LOL). Truly a museum quality antique. Own a piece of transit history!
