1890's Raphael Tuck Embossed Die Cut Chromolithograph Ribbon Ladder Valentine #1 For Sale
Very Rare and wonderful, 1890's, 4 piece, ribbon connected Hanging Chromolithograph, Embossed and Die Cut Valentine's Day Card by Raphael Tuck in the form of a beautiful wreath of daisies with a Monarch Butterfly in the center. We are not exactly sure what this type of Tuck Die Cut is called but the 4 separately die cut pieces are connected one to the next with delicate ribbons and the Card extends in a somewhat "ladder form" design.
This stunningly beautiful, Chromolithograph Die Cut Valentines Day Card is made up of 4, similarly die cut and embossed panels in the form of an elaborate Daisy Flower Wreath with a large Monarch Butterfly at the center of the wreath. Each of the Panels is connected to the next by 2 delicate silk ribbons and the Card is "opened" by extending the "chain" of panels to reveal a construct approx. 12 1/2" long.
The Card is titled on the initial panel "A Daisy Chain". The first and third panels have no text but feature a full color image of the Monarch Butterfly at the center of the Daisy Wreath. The second and bottom panels feature a blank silhouette of the butterfly in the center of the wreath with the printed text of a simple love poem. The construct carries the mark of Raphael Tuck & Sons Ltd of London, Paris and New York on the back of the bottom panel.
This wonderful, Embossed and Die Cut, Chromolithograph Valentines Day Card is in very good to excellent condition. Each of the four panels are clean and crisp and exceptionally well preserved with no tears, chipping, scuffing, repairs or damage of any other kind. The delicate ribbon that connects the panels together is broken in three places (one of two connections between each of the four panels) but is otherwise present and intact. Please see the scans below for a good indication of the condition of this wonderful valentine.

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.

PLEASE NOTE: We did not notice small amounts of adhesive residue on the two panels that have text within a silhouette of a Butterfly. It looks like these panels once had a folding image of a butterfly that covered the text and folded back to allow the text to be read. These folding panels are not present.
