1892 Grover Cleveland Adlai Stevenson Felt Campaign Top Hat:
Top hat promoting Grover Cleveland for president and Adlai Stevenson for vice president, 1892. Felt construction, silk band and leather sweatband, with paper label inserted in crown.
Label bears portraits of Cleveland and Stevenson in ovals beneath a banner inscribed, GROVER CLEVELAND/ [AND] A.E. STEVENSON/ CAMPAIGN 1892; center, a representation of the U.S. Capitol and American Flag; below, a bald eagle clutching a banner bearing the legend, TARIFF REFORM. The name and address of the original owner, one W.J. Austin of Oneida, New York, who must have worn it during the campaign, is written in pencil.
Some minor pest damage and routine wear from use. Label shows what appears to be glue residue from where we presume the hatter's label was once affixed.
Overall, as fine an example as you are apt to find, and much scarcer than the Harrison mate. A great piece of 19th century political accoutrement!
SIZE: 7 in. (overall height); fits an adult
