1894 William Buffalo Bill Cody Signed & Inscribed Wild West Show Pass For Sale
Exceptionally rare and wonderful, 1894 Signed, Inscribed and dated, Personal Calling Card of William "Buffalo Bill" Cody being a Pass for Free Admission to a performance of "Buffalo Bill's Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World".
This fantastic Calling Card / Wild West Show Pass measures approx. 3 1/2" by 2" and features printed text that reads "Wm. F. Cody. / Nebraska, U.S.A." at the center and "Brig. Gen. Nat'l. Guards" at the lower left hand corner. Cody has covered the majority of the blank space on this fantastic Calling Card with hand written text that reads "Wild West / Admit H. C. Jones / Seat / Season 1894 / (signed) W. F. Cody".
This wonderful Calling card itself is a very rare and highly desirable piece of Buffalo Bill memorabilia - to have it used by Cody as a "Complimentary Ticket" to the 1894 edition of his Wild West Show by inscribing and signing the Card make it a most unusual and wonderful item.
While we have uncovered two examples of ca1910 William F. Cody Calling / Business Cards that were signed and inscribed by him to create a "Complimentary Pass" to admit the bearer to a movie theater showing of either Sam Goldberg's slide series showing Buffalo Bill in action or Harry Powers' moving picture of the Wild West Show titled "300 Thrills in 300 Reels", we have found no other examples of 19th century "Complimentary Passes" issued by Cody to his Wild West that have been offered for sale in the past 25+ years. We believe that the Calling Card / Complimentary Pass offered here is exceptionally rare as we would guess that the recipient of such a Pass would have surrendered it upon admission to the Show!!
We will not attempt to summarize the storied history of the larger than life figure that was Buffalo Bill Cody - we assume those interested in this wonderful Signed and Inscriber Calling Card will likely know more than we do about his life and legend. Suffice it to say that we are proud to be able to offer this wonderful piece of Western Americana / Wild West Show Memoribilia, as always, without reserve and with the confidence that it will attract the serious attention that it justly deserves.
