1899 Love Disarmed By Reed & Barton Sterling:set For 12 + Extras In Case:
I HAVE JUST BEGUN WORKING ON AN ESTATE THAT TIME HAS FORGOTTEN, AND FORTUNATELY FOR US, I HAVE BEGUN UNEARTHING THESE TREASURES FOR ALL TO SEE AND OWN, THIS FABULOUS STERLING SILVER FLATWARE SET BY REED AND BARTON, LOVE DISARMED, WAS INTRODUCED IN 1899 AND IS THE MOST RARE AND MOST DESIRABLE PATTERN IN THE INDUSTRY TODAY FROM REED 7 BARTON WHEN IT COMES TO STERLING SILVER FLATWARE. THIS PATTERN IS ALSO ONE OF THE HARDEST SETS IN THE INDUSTRY T O FIND IN EITHER THE OLD OR NEW STYLE...I HAVE THE OLD STYLE, AS THE OWNER OF THIS SET IS 83 YEARS OF AGEAND HE INHERITED IT FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER. IT FITS ALL THE CHECKS AS TO OLD AND NEW WITH THE "PAT. APPLD. FOR," ON EACH OF THE BACKS, THE CRISPNESS TO THE PATTERN AND GRAND DETAIL WITH THE DRESS FOLDS APPEARING CLEAR, DEEP, SHARP AND RICH, AND THE BRILLIANTLY CLEAR FAME WITH SLENDER NECK. CUT BY HAND, I HAVE HERE 44 MONOGRAMMED PIECES WITH THE LETTER "C", A FULL SET FOR 12 AND EXTRA PIECES - 'MOST ALL OF THE ORIGINAL LOVE DISARMED SILVERWARE THAT WERE ORIGINAL WERE MONOGRAMMED. IT WAS FOUND IN A BEAUTIFUL LEATHER CASE STILL WITH ITS LOCK KEY - THIS I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE AS TO THE ORIGINALITY OF; HOWEVER, I BELIEVE IT COULD VERY WELL BE. I HAVE THE FOLLOWING PIECES: 12 KNIVES THAT ARE EACH 9" LONG WITH A PENNY WEIGHT OF 618...I DO NOT KNOW IF THE KNIFE HANDLES ARE WEIGHTED AND EACH BLADE READS "REED & BARTON MIRRORSTELE." THERE ARE 12 SPOONS, EACH 6" LONG AND 282 WEIGHT; 12 FORKS 7" AND A WEIGHT OF 499; 4 LARGE SERVING SPOONS, 8 1/4", 240.3 WEIGHT; 3 SERVING PIECES: BUTTER KNIFE, 8 1/4" LONG, 1 SUGAR SPOON, 6", AND 1 FORMAL LADLE, 6 1/2" L WITH A COMBINED WEIGHT OF 101.3 PENNY WEIGHT. THERE IS ALSO ONE VERY LARGE I BELIEVE SALAD SPOON THAT IS 11" LONG, HAS THE GOLD SPOON INSIDE AND HAS A WEIGHT OF144.77. THE LEATHER CASE, MEASURING 11 1.4" W X 3 3/4" H X 8 3/4" D, AS I HAVE SAID, HAS ITS KEY AND ALTHOUGH I AM NOT SURE IT IS ORIGINAL TO THE SET, IS VERY OLD AND HOUSES EVERY PIECE BUT THE LARGE SALAD SPOON. THIS, I AM SURE YOU WILLAGREE IS AN EXCEPTIONAL LOOKING PATTERN AND HAS HELD ITS BEAUTY FOR ALL OF THESE 114 YEARS!On Aug-04-13 at 04:19:50 PDT, seller added the following information:
Please note: I have been answering quite a few of technical questions about this old set, as right you should, and I need to state that on the forks and 4 serving spoons, pat. applied for is not present but a date of Dec. 56, 1905. The knives do not have ppf, but I believe a date again around the circle of the knives and silver marks as well. All the rest have pat. app. for. Thank you for your patience, but I had no idea the extensiveness of this set. Kathy
