THE PUNISHMENT OF PUBLIC WHIPPING

1789

A fine early vintageand genuine 18th Century American document dated at Boston, 1789. 2 pages that detail the trail and conviction of a man who was caught stealing a load of sugar. Hispunishment is laid out in the document, to be publicly whipped with 10 stripes on his naked back and to pay the owner triple the value of the sugar.

They also order him to be given over to the military commander and be taken to Castle Island. He will be put a labor for nine months, safely keptuntil his sentence is finished.Document very nicely written and detailed., autographed by Ezekiel Price and Joseph Henderson, the Sheriff at Boston.

~~Castle Island was known as Castle William first, a large fort still stands on this island near the harbor of Boston. In 1789, it had a small community and a group of slaves. This man will likely work in the warehouses and harbor that was standing at this time. We will send two copies showing the old Castle William and the newer Castle Island with this original document.
