Description

Handsome exceptional pair of Dutch Delft 18th Century blue & white tin-glazed earthenware mantel garnitures, Holland. One vase with original domed cover surmounted with Fo-dog finial. Baluster forms with flaring octagonal necks and bases as well as a central chinoiserie cartouche of figure with walking stick and pagoda by tree, surrounded by raised foliate border showing delicate detailed decoration. Each displays stylized botanical expression on the verso. Both vessels are clearly marked on the base JVDH with an underline. A kind fellow er has informed me that his mark may be attributed to Jan van der Hagen from theHet Jonge Moriaanshoofd. Additionally, Christie\'s sold a 5 piece set of balaster jars and beakers with the same mark identified as possibly by Jan van der Hagen as well in 2009. The blue decorative work is rich and deep in color with each vase showing various old restorations and chipping including the lid which shows loss at the Fo-dog tail as well as some chipping. The vase without cover measures 7 3/4 inches tall and vase with cover measures 11 1/2 inches tall.
