Greetings from Massachusetts Antiques!For your consideration:An 18th Century c1780s AMERICAN HANDWRITTEN Religious MANUSCRIPT FINE Leather Bound Pocket Bible220+ years old! A fabulously crafted binding from late 18th century America. The binding, paper stock and bookplate all seem to date from about the 1780s or 90s. This leather tome is a work of art in itself with a handsome full chocolate brown leather binding complete with ornately detailed edges in gold gilt. FINE binding with 6 decorated compartments and intricate gold gilt detailing and bands. When opened one is quite impressed with the intricate marbled end papers brimming with bright and inviting yellows, reds and blues!In FINE overall condition with the only blemish to note being a small chip to the top of the spine. Other than that this book is immaculate and has been just wonderfully preserved. CLEAN, CRISP & WHITE hand laid chain link 18th century ragweed paper stock; partial watermarks can also be noted on the page edges signifying these pages were cut from a larger sheet. Hand laid in a strong and tightly crafted binding that has withstood the test of time. All pages are firmly secure.A one of a kind piece originating from a Virginia estate; contains 184 total pages with 120 pages of manuscript religious writings containing prayers, Bible passages, Hymns, Original thought, a prayer to be used in a time of affliction and thoughts on topics including Beneficence, Prayer, Humility, Death and more. 64 blank pages at the rear. Entirely handwritten in stunning period ink with a steady hand. I was unable to find a signature or author name however there is a very interesting 18th century bookplate affixed to the front inner board. The bookplate looks to be that of a dragon and boasts the initials \"T.J.\" or \"T.F.\" written in Old English script. I do believe that with a little work someone can identify this bookplate and the author of this manuscript!Small Fine Leather Bound book measuring 4 1/4\" x 3\" and 3/4\" thick! 184 total pages containing 120 pages of Manuscript writing!A Fine piece of Antiquarian history and a wonderful acquisition worthy of further research indeed!Please enjoy the photos for further item details and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
