18th Century To Early 19th Century Powder Horn Rev War To War Of 1812 See For Sale
VERY NICE LATE 18TH TO EARLY 19TH CENTURY POWDER HORN, AMERICAN REVOLUTION TO WAR OF 1812 PERIOD
Update: As the scratch I described is noticeable, though the powder horn overall remains very nice, I am reducing the opening offer to $75; a very good deal for the price!!
About two weeks ago at a Maryland antique show, I purchased several antique powder horns that came from a Pittsburg, Pennsylvania collection. I am selling one of the horns from this purchase. It is 8" from tip to base with a very pleasing light brown, almost honey color patina. The powder horn also has a very appealing ring design on the tip; my photo does not do it justice. The powder horn tip has an old plug which may be original but in any event has good age to it.
There is slight damage at the plug base as well as a scratch about 1" in length on the side of the horn that while present, does not take away from the overall appeal of the powder horn. The base of the horn also has the initials "EL" carved into the base which definitely adds character to it. Otherwise the horn is in VG+ condition, quite nice.
30 day return guarantee as long as the powder horn is returned in the same condition as sent. Mailing cost includes insurance and is based on domestic mailing. International mailing cost will be based on destination.
This powder horn would fit well with several types of collections: early Americana as powder horns were used for civilian as well as military purpose; an American Revolution collection; or a War of 1812 collection as these types of horns were used from the period of the late 18th century into the early 19th century before other types of powder containers such as flasks, came into wide use or loose powder was replaced by pre-set cartridges already containing black powder along with the bullet.
