19 Large,2 Medium,3 Small Antique Wooden Alphabet Blocks Prior 1930 For Sale
CAME FROM A LOCAL sale. THERE ARE A TOTAL OF 25 BLOCKS ALTOGETHER. 19 LARGE 2 X 2 X 2, MEDIUM 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 X 1 5/8, SMALL 1 X 1 X 1, and a small rectangular block w ABC litho on front (see photo 2). some are quite worn, some of the sides are unrecognizable, there is some damage on a few (looks like chewed, but I think just worn from age). I believe they were made by the EMBOSSING CO. OF ALBANY NEW YORK. The embossed carved design, pictures on the side, style of letters and size of blocks match blocks made by them. they were more than likely made by 1926 and probably before this time. "Toys that Teach" was their motto. Checkers, dominos ,architectural and ABC blocks made up a majority of this company's toy and game products.
The 2 opposite sides with embossed letters are colored 1 side blue, the other red, The 4 other sides are smooth, 2 are animals, and 1 is hand painted letters, the other hand painted numbers. these are for the large blocks. the smaller ones are not as intricate.
