1/9 Ninth Plate Antique Ambrotype Gentleman and Large Case With Photo
This sale
is for a ninth plate antique ambrotype of a gentleman in half case, along with
a large case containing a photograph of an elderly lady. The ambrotype has some
damage to the emulsion at the back but the image of the gentleman is still
visible.
The large case
is quite unusual as I’ve seen them housing daguerreotypes and ambrotypes before
but this is just a paper photograph stuck to the back with the gilt metal frame
over the top. The gilt frame is easily removed so would be ideal to house an
actual ambrotype.
The case is in
excellent condition, with both hooks intact, lined with velvet and the spine
also intact. There is some minor bumping to corners but nothing serious.
It is marked to the back Hennah & Kent, Brighton.
The ambrotype measures approx 75mm high (3") x 60mm
wide (2.5").
The case measures 165mm high (6.5") x 140mm wide (5.5"), with the
inside space for image/photo being 150mm high (6") x 130mm wide (5")
