1900 Antique Mardi Gras Invitation Krewe Of Proteus New Orleans Carnival:
A great piece of New Orleans Mardi Gras History!!!---an OriginalKrewe of Proteus Mardi Gras ball invitation from the year 1900!! . Named after the Greek sea god, the Krewe of Proteus was founded in 1882 and ranks among the oldest carnival organizations in New Orleans. The invitation measures approximately 9 3/4 by 5 1/2 at its highest and widest points. The invitation is die cut andtwo sided. The front of the invitation reads French Opera House Feburary 26th on a light pink banner being held in the beak of a Gryphon like bird. On the right side is interlocked light blue lettersKoP. The reverse showsa dragon and mermaid with fairies with the inscription "Krewe of Proteus 1900". The krewes theme for the year 1900 was "Tales of Childhood"
