Frans Hals (c.1580–1666) was a Dutch Golden Age painter especially famous for portraiture. He is notable for his loose painterly brushwork, and helped introduce this lively style of painting into Dutch art. Hals was also instrumental in the evolution of 17th century group portraiture.
This volume is a comprehensive biography of the great painter and includes 31 plates of his work.
The binding is tight with the boards and all internal pages securely attached, although the front inner hinge is slightly strained. There is some mild wear to the extremities includingsome marks and rubbingto the cloth and vellum.Internally the pages arebrightand clean with the exception of the plates which have spotting as usual due to the paper used.Overall, the condition of this volume is very good.
