I'm listing an outstanding assortment of musical, electrical and mechanical
antiques, and I suspect that there will be something of
interest to almost everyone.Here's a gorgeous little Kastenpuck cylinder phonograph in superb condition throughout. The phonograph was meticulously restored by Jean-Paul Agnard, curator of one of the largest and most respected collections of phonographs in the world, and it looks and plays exactly like it did when it was sitting on a dealer's shelf more than a century ago. The motor is as good as (or better than) the motor on any other Puck type phonograph I've ever owned, and the reproducer is able to track an entire 2 minute cylinder without skating off to the side half way through a record. The level-adjustment mechanism is working properly, and the governor is working properly too. The speed does not change as the cylinder is playing through (pretty remarkable for a little Puck). The original zinc horn is in excellent condition, with some stress lines near the soldered connections but no distressed or damaged areas. The reproducer is a replica, as is the winding key, but as you can see both are identical in all aspects to the originals.
If you're searching for a small cylinder phonograph that you can actually use, this Kastenpuck is worth a serious look. Like all Pucks, it's an adorable machine, but unlike most Pucks (at least those you find these days), this one actually works. And it works well, at that, making it easily through a cylinder without the need to rewind.
I'll include with the machine a 2-minute Columbia Indestructible cylinder. If you get tired of listening to the cylinder, there are plenty of other titles available on and elsewhere. The machine plays Edison cylinders too, I should note, along with those made by Oxford, Lakeside, etc. And if you're not already familiar with how tooperate an early cylinder phonograph, don't worry. I'll provide you with simple, easy to understandset-up instructions,so you'll be able to use it within minutes after you unpack it and put it together.
