There are no splits, pins or other repairs on this stock; however, there isa small seasoning crack on top of the tang. It is very small and does not penetrate into the wood.It remains only on the surface, andI mention it only for full disclosure. Other than the namedseasoning crack, there are no other cracks in the stock. (Note: I took a closeup of the inside of the tang, and satisfied myself that it was only a seasoning crack. It should not open up unless you plan on using this stock for across-the-course rifle matches, which I would not recommend.)
Also, it looks like some type of arsenal modification was done on the inside of the stock. It looks like an small area of wood was removed inside the stock - see the last image to see the area of wood removed (the removed wood looks to have been "wallowed" out with some type of woodworking tool. The wood removal does not hurt the intergrity of the stock; the removal waspossibly as some type of modification for the lug of a later model 1903.
This is a solid stock, and looks much better in person than in pictures. (The flash from a camera is not flattering.) This stock would be an excellent choice for your 1903 Springfield restoration. Put your offer in for it now!
The stock will be shipped in one of the CMP's heavy duty cardboard rifle boxes, with thefoam inserts. As a consequence, it will be heavier, and more expensive to ship. But, I am sure you would rather the stockget to your house in one piece, thanin two pieces. So, the shipping price will betad bit more expensivethan your standard shipping box.
