1904 Hand Held Stereoscope / Stereoviewer In Original Carrying Case For Sale
Rare and original, 1904 hand-held Stereopticon Viewer / Stereoscope in outstanding, original condition and housed in its original carrying case. This beautiful Stereo Viewer measures approx. 12 1/4" long overall and features an adjustable card holder, a folding handle and a brushed aluminum viewing hood with maroon velvet trim. The glass lenses are housed in brushed aluminum lens mounts and the Viewer carries the mark of the manufacturer - The American Stereoscopic Co. of New York. The Viewer also carries three patent dates the latest being October 11, 1904. The optics of the Viewer are exceptional and it is both very attractive and very well preserved.
What makes this Stereoviewer most interesting is the fact that it is housed in its original case with fitted interior made specifically to hold this particular Viewer. The Case is made of paperboard and features a fitted interior section that holds the sliding card holder. The body of the Viewer fits snuggly into the case and it is obvious that the Stereoscope has been preserved in such outstanding condition because it has spent 100+ years in this original Case. While we have handled literally 100’s of Stereoviewers / Stereoscopes over the past 33+ years, we have never come across an early 20th century in its original case and we believe such cases are particularly rare.
This rare and exceptionally well preserved, 1904 cased, hand held Stereoscope is in excellent to near mint condition. All parts are present and in excellent working order. The finishes on all parts are original and exceptionally well preserved and the optics are sharp and eye popping!! The velvet trim on the viewing lens is particularly well preserved with dark and bold color and as soft and supple as the day the Viewer was made. The original, paperboard Case is in very good condition - sound and intact with all corners and flaps tight and original. There are a few tiny spots of wear to the heavy, black paper pastedown and some rippling to the pastedown on the top surface of the lid but overall the Case is well preserved and displays nicely.
A rare and original, 1904 hand-held Stereopticon Viewer / Stereoscope in outstanding, original condition housed in its original Case and a fantastic addition to any collection or as the perfect Viewer to use every day with your prized Stereoview Collection!!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee.
