While we have handled scores of St. Louis World's Fair Stereoviews over the past 33+ years, this is the first time we have come across a near complete Set housed in its original, Book Form Box. Included here are many Views we have never seen before and, as a whole this lot of 47 views is a fantastic look at the Fair itself and gives one a real "feel" for the experience of a visitor!!

The Book Form Box measures approx. 4 3/8" tall and 7 1/2" by 3 1/2" at the base. It is covered in a dark, olive green cloth identical to that used in bookbinding and on each of the two "spines" there is blind stamped text that reads "The World's Fair / Louisiana Purchase Exposition / St. Louis" and "Underwood and Underwood". When the top half of the Box is removed the Stereoviews inside are revealed.

The 47 Stereoviews contained in the Box each measure approx. 7" by 3 1/2" and are mounted on identical, black surface, curved card mounts. Each View is numbered and titled on the front of the mount and each is copyright 1904 by Underwood and Underwood. Some of the Cards are blank backed while others have extensive, printed text on the reverse describing the content of the View.

As we stated above, the Set includes many images we have never encountered before including Native American Views, interior Views of the Boer War Battle reenactments, a wonderful view of the Cattle Show, and many others. We have included a large number of scans below to give an indication of the wide range of Images included in this near Complete Set and we ask that potential buyers take the time to view the scans for a good indication of both content and condition of this wonderful group of Stereoviews.

This very rare and wonderful, near complete Boxed Set of 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair Stereoviews is in very good condition overall. The original, Book Form Box is complete, sound and intact with some light edge wear as can be seen in the scans below. The Set includes 47 of the original 54 Views (lacks Views Number Number 14, 17, 30, 34, 39, 40 and 48). All of the Stereoviews are clean and crisp and very well preserved physically with no bends, tears, surface damage, or physical damage of any kind. Almost all of the Views exhibit sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality with less than a handful exhibiting a bit of VERY minor fading to the images. Overall these 47 Stereoviews are exceptionally well preserved and all exhibit excellent 3 dimensional quality when viewed in a Stereoscope.

We were tempted to break this set up as we find that some of the more desirable 1904 World’s Fair Stereoviews sell for $35.00 or more, but we felt that it was best to keep the Set together as we felt confident that this wonderful collection of Views would attract the serious attention that it justly deserves!!
