World\'s Fair Items

1904 World’s Fair St. Louis Glass Jar and 1934 World’s Fair Chicago Salt and Pepper Shakers. Both are recent estate finds.

The glass jar by itself with no lid measures approximately 2-1/4” tall. With the damaged lid, the jar measures approximately 4” tall. The lid is destroyed, broken in half and glued back together in a terribly crude way – the finial is broken off and loose. You may end up just throwing the lid away – I almost did.

The metal shakers measure 2-11/16” tall. The shakers are identical. One side has the Hall of Science, and the other side has the Federal Building. They are marked Made in Japan, and there is a crude (difficult to read) marking that I believe reads N Shure Co Importers Chicago.

The jar’s lid is absolute junk, but the jar itself has no chips and no cracks. The top edge of the jar has a good deal of scratching, dullness and related surface wear from the lid rubbing and whatnot. The ruby color has crudeness, spotty discoloration, and there’s some scratching. The other side of the jar has the name Frank Godlove etched. The mold line along the underside edge has some scratching and tiny bite roughness. The bottom has a 1-1/2” straw mark.

The shakers are beaten up with a nasty amount of scratching, pitting and related wear throughout. There are several edge nicks. The text and buildings have heavy wear – worn, faded and rounded. There’s an evident amount of overall darkening and discoloration. The top edges and insides are terribly crude. One lid has a noticeable 1/8” crack. The other lid has a couple smaller and less noticeable edge cracks. One spout is more rough looking than the other – both spouts seem to be misshapen some.
