Grannie sits in her oaken chair The firelight flits o'er her silvery hair,
The silent children around her sit, As she pieces her patchwork coverlet;
She tells them her story of London Town, And shows them the scraps of her bridal gown;
Each fragment there is a printed page, With mem'ries written 'twixt youth & age.
From the old song Patchwork
Wonderful old quilt made in Turkey red & off-white. Two separate corners are written in fountain ink: Pieced bu Mary A. Carter 1904 age 88 & in the other corner is Quilted by Harrit Carter 1909. I double checked the spellingof Harrit's first name & shedefinitely has written Harrit. According to the date of 1904, that wouldshow that Mary was bornin 1816. I researched the internet for about an hour & found a Mary A. Carter born in England in 1816 who later moved to the States but could not connect the two names. I don't know if they were sisters, mother & daughter; or even if that is the correct Mary.
Thequilt pattern is called Album Patch. The quilt measures 68" x 64" & is in very good condition. There is age discoloration throughout & normally, I would have laundered it before listing it but the quilt has nver been laundered, even after 104 years & I did not want to disturb the quilt's integrity by being the first. The red fabric is as vibrant as ever & yo can still see thepencil trace lines. There are no rips, tears or holes, no fraying.
It's nicely quilted with diagonal lines through the borders & the patterned blocks; andthe solid off-white blocks are quilted in a diamond design... all with 9 spi.
Just think if thisquilt couldtalk! Please take a look at all of the other quilts & quilt tops I have listed & check back all week for more. I'm happy to combine shipping for you.

About Me: It all started when I was a little girl.... Gramma gave Mom a piece of Flow Blue that had been passed down in our family, then she would pass it on to me. Gramma knitted, crocheted, & quilted but being a "lefty", I could never get the hang of knitting or crocheting so I learned to quilt & applique. My love of quilts & antiques comes honestly I guess. Iama "collectaholic"so I've had to set new rules for myself... "If I buy one more quilt, one has to be sold". There's just not enough room anymore! Several years ago I decided to leave a 25 year career in Human Resources Management & do something for myself... spend more time with family & friends, garden when this Ohio weather allows, & hunt for quilts, vintage clothing & hats, & other antiques.
