1905 Civil War Veterans 184th New York Regimental Reunion Celluloid Badge Oswego For Sale
Very Rare, original, 1905, Civil War Regimental Reunion Souvenir Ribbon Badge from the 184th Regiment New York Infantry of Oswego, New York. This outstanding Badge / Pin features a fantastic, 1 1/8" diameter Celluloid Pinback Button with a photographic portrait of Captain Joel S. Palmer (of Company A, 184th NY Vols.) in his Civil war Uniform.
This outstanding Grand Army of the Republic / Regimental Reunion Pin Back / Ribbon Badge measures approx. 5” long overall and is made up of two elements. At the top is a 1 1/8" Celluloid Pin with a sepia toned portrait of Captain Palmer likely taken from a Civil war period CDV Photograph. Text at the bottom of the pin reads "Capt. Joel S. Palmer". The celluloid pin is framed in a reticulated brass surround. Attached to the Pin is a 3 5/8" long by 1 1/2" wide, cream colored, silk ribbon with gold gilt text that reads: "1864 - 1905 / Reunion / 184th N.Y. Infantry / Oswego Falls / June 7, 1905". The Celluloid Pin retains its original paper label and the silk ribbon retails its original, affixed paper label which carry the mark of the manufacturer - Whitehead & Hoag of Newark, New Jersey.
This outstanding, 1905 Civil war Veteran's Regimental Reunion Souvenir Ribbon Badge is in very good, original condition. The Celluloid Portrait Pin is clean and crisp with no foxing, staining, cracks, crazing, damage or repairs of any kind. The Pin retains its original, bright and shiny celluloid surface. The silk ribbon is lightly soiled but the printed text is very well preserved and there are no tears, thinning or significant damage of any kind to the ribbon.
