1905 Columbia Standard Phonograph W/blue Flower Horn * 100% Orig. * Plays Great For Sale
Make sure to check out all of my sales after you've looked at this one. I've got some great items listed this week, and there should be something of interest to just about everyone. Here's a 1905 Standard phonograph with a rare original blue flower horn (most Standard horns were red). Manufactured by Columbia in Bridgeport CT and marketed by the Standard Talking Machine Co. in Chicago IL, these machines were relatively inexpensive to purchase outright, but they used exhorbitantly priced Standard records and wound up costing their owners a small fortune to build a music library around. I'll include 3 Standard records with the phonograph, but dozens of others are available on each week (and these days they don't cost much more than Victor or Columbia records).
Cabinet finish is original and in excellent condition, and the wood itself (quartersawn oak) is in excellent condition, with no corner damage, no missing trim, no gouges and no repairs. Blue
horn retains its original paint, with wear and deterioration evident in areas both inside and outside of the bell (see photographs of horn pictured from all angles). The cabinet decal is original and nearly flawless. Still a vibrant red and gold, the decal makes the entire phonograph look especially nice because the horn is a bold blue. All four original feet remain on the underside of the base, and the original paper label, which gives instructions on oiling the bearings, remains intact on the inside of the cabinet.
Nickel-plating is original everywhere on this machine, with some oxidation, pitting and tarnish evident in areas but no dented, dinged up or damaged parts. The turntable felt is original and it's in excellent condition, with fading evident and a couple of needle digs but no moth damage. Tonearm is in excellent
condition and moves freely, and the back-bracket retains its original paint, which is in excellent condition. Columbia Analyzing reproducer is likewise in excellent original condition, and it still sounds great too. Crank is original and in excellent condition, with nice original nickel-plating. Speed control and brake are both operating properly.Overall working condition of the phonograph is excellent, and records played on this machine sound great. The motor still has sufficient torque to make it through a record with a single winding and the music flowing out of horn is still loud and resonant.
I'll include set-up and operating instructions, along with 3 records. If you grow tired of listening to them, plenty of others are available on each week.
That's about it. Buyer prepays and
includes shipping. Phonograph and horn will need to be packaged
separately to ensure the safe arrival of the horn. I've been shipping antique phonographs and scientific apparatus around the world for decades, and I know how to get things to you safely. Overseas buyers are
welcome in countries where I can ship oversized packages, but please note
that I can't falsify customs documents to save you money on duty.
