1907-1912 Handwritten Diary Bellevue Monongahela Allegheny Pennsylvania History

1907 -

This FANTASTIC 108 YEAR OLD handwritten antique diary / journal / manuscript book
was written by a woman who I think was named MARY HINDINAN.
I say "think" because she wrote her name in the front of the diary,
but I can't find her in the census records,
so her name may be spelleddifferentlythan I think....
I'll scanher nameso you can see it for yourself.
I'm pretty sure she lived in ALLEGHENY COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
because she mentions many communities in this county, including
Wilkinsburg, McKeesport, Pittsburgh, Elizabeth, Bellevue. This diary would be great for the person who likes to doresearch,
because she left a lot of clues in the diary about her family,
and I'm sure there is a lot to discover about Mary!
She writes of having a son, Marion, who died in 1902
and she also has a son named William.
She tells of Aunt Jane King living with them,
and of her illness and death on November 21, 1907.
I know if I had more time to spend on research, I'd be able to find her family history,
but my time is very limited,
so I'll let the winning buyer have the opportunity to do it if they so desire. This is a RARE
One-Of-A-Kind
Window Into
Pennsylvania& American History !!!Mary entries provide a wonderful look into life in Allegheny County over 100 years ago!
She mentions many names of the local people too, so this diary would be great for a Historian
or descendants of folks from this area. She writes of her husband delivering supplies to many schools,
such as Haydens School, Brownsdale School, Bunda School, Elk Horn School,
Franklin School, and others.
She tells of Scarlet Fever being in the community and ofher sons house being quarantined
when their baby comes down with Scarlet Fever.
She writes of the death of Aunt Jane King & a family feud that follows,
going to an Exposition,
of a lady getting thrown off of a street car,
an Explosion at Burgettstown,
seeing Halleys Comet & an Eclipse of the moon,
of boys serenading Kate Gillingham,
having gas lines & gas fixtures put into their home,
many accidents, deaths, weddings & births,
and so much more!
It is a WONDERFUL Slice of Americana !!!Mary's entries begin on August 19, 1907 and end on January 7, 1912.
There are 127 pages full of handwritten entries!
The diary measures 5" x 7 1/2" so there is quite a lot to read!
And her handwriting is very legible too!

HERE ARE A FEW EXCERPTS I'VE TAKEN FROM THE DIARY ENTRIES,
Please Note That These Are A Very Small Portion Of The Diary, There Is Much More To Read!
