From my airship collection I offer thisoriginal33mm medal made from the wreck of the LZ4 Zeppelin. The obverse has Graf Zeppelin in standard 3/4 facing bust with legend around. The reverse shows the LZ4 Zeppelin in flight before the tower of Strassburg cathedral forming a T. Legend around in German reveals it is made from the wreckage of the fallen airship. The fire of the LZ-4 airship on August 5, 1908 would almost have meant the end of the Zeppelins even before the era of the great airships had begun. But a fund raising campaign by the flock-fueled population reached the opposite point and placed the Zeppelin project on a secure footing.Because the army was interested in buying airships for military purposes they insisted on a 24 hour endurance flight. During a stop for repairs theZeppelin broke its moorings and crashed in flames. The last pictures of the airship are not part of the sale, but if asked I will include scanned copy's
