1910 Navajo Handmade Silver Beads & Naja Necklace:
An early circa 1910 Navajo silver bead and naja necklace in a simple, primitive style with 60 handmade round sterling silver beads, each bead measuring almost 1/2" hole to hole, the crude thick silver naja is wide rather than tall, an earlier trait, measuring 2 1/4" wide X 2 1/8" tall, including the post. Unmarked, simple and elegant. Compare with similar examples of old naja/bead necklaces from their horse bridal ornament beginnings in Mera's INDIAN SILVER OF THE SOUTHWEST, vol. one and Larry Frank's INDIAN JEWELRY OF THE SOUTHWEST 1868-1930, pp.s 35 and 157. Necklace is unmarked and measures 13 1/2" doubled drop length to the bottom of the naja or 23" circumference. Total weight is 89 grams. Excellent vintage, wearable and collectible condition, acquired years ago from the Scottsdale Trading Post, AZ. All sales, as in any sale, are final.
