About The Poster:Bicycles provided a means of independence for women, allowing them to travel unescorted and at liberty to enjoy life and its simple pleasures. The bicycle changed social customs, gave women self-confidence, even influenced fashion … it was far more than a means of simple transportation...

The Clement Bicycle company produced a wide variety of posters - some appealing to their male clientele, and other, like this one, to the ladies. \"Japanese woodblock prints were a major influence on the early posterists, and here, perhaps, is the poster\'s acknowledgement-or revenge. Beyond its humor value, Leverd shows that on a Clement ladies bike, a woman can preserve her elegance and balance even in a kimono-as well as proving that he\'s capable of creating more than domestic slices of life. Fuji (which would one day serve as the namesake of another fine bicycle brand) rises in the distance. Rene Leverd, son and student of landscape painter Leon Leverd, was primarily a watercolorist whose scenes of Paris and environs were much noted and exhibited. (Rennert)\"

On linen, this poster is in good condition with some repaired tears. Photos of tears available upon request.
