1912 Theodore Roosevelt / Bull Moose Presidential Campaign Giant Cigar & Box For Sale

This apparently, previously unknown 1912 Bull Moose Party Presidential Campaign Cigar measures approx. 8" long overall and is wrapped with a chromolithographed Cigar Band that measures approx. 2 5/8" tall at the center and would measure approx. 4 1/2" wide if removed from the Cigar. The Cigar Band features a bust portrait of Teddy Roosevelt at the center within an oval "frame" and text above the portrait that reads simply "Theodore Roosevelt". There is an embossed, gold gilt, spread wing eagle below the portrait and red, white, blue and gold gilt embossed decorations on the "arms" of the Band.

While the Cigar is quite amazing itself, it is the wooden Box that contains it which identifies as a very rare 1912 Bull Moose party presidential Campaign. The wooden Cigar Box measures approx. 9 3/8" by 2" by 1 3/8" tall. The Box features pastedown labels on both of the long sides with printed text that reads "Teddy The Bull Moose". There is another pastedown label on the bottom of the box with text that reads "This Cigar has been removed from a Box that has already been stamped". There is also an ink stamp on one of the short sides of the Box that identifies the price as "10¢". It appears that this individual, wooden Cigar Box was open topped and there is no indication that the Box ever had a lid.

In 1912 the Presidential Election was hotly contested by 4 major candidates. The incumbent Republican President William Howard Taft was opposed not only by the Democratic Party Candidate Woodrow Wilson and the Socialist Party candidate Eugene Debs, but also by his former mentor Theodore Roosevelt (running as a third party candidate of the newly formed Progressive Party - popularly known as the "Bull Moose Party") . Bull Moose Party Campaign Items are exceptionally rare and we have been unable to uncover any information or other examples of this wonderful, Oversized Campaign Cigar!!

This exceptionally rare and original, 1912 Theodore Roosevelt Oversized Bull Moose Party Presidential Campaign Cigar is in good to very good condition. While the Cigar itself has deteriorated over the past 100+ years, the wonderful, large size, pictorial Cigar Band is exceptionally well preserved with no significant damage or wear of any kind. The "oh so important" wooden Cigar Box is intact and sound and the applied, pastedown labels exhibit some soiling, edge wear and some paper loss to one of the two labels on the long side panel of the Box (see the scans below).
