A substantial, nicely patinated wooden chest dated 1914 and inscribed on a solid brass plaque: "Capt. Rupert Brown, No.9 Squadron, Royal Naval Air Service, Saint-Pol-Sur-Mer, France, R.N.A.S."(No.9 Squadron RNAS became 209 Squadron RAF on 1 April 1918 at Clairmarais. Equipped with Camels it flew fighter and ground attack missions over the Western front for the rest of WW1)

Painted mark to side:"VOCAB. SECT. 1.A"
Extremely robust; made of thick solid wood with dovetail joints
Metal reinforcement strap around lid and heavy duty hinges
Substantial articulated carry handle and lock (no key)
Approx overall size (inches): 16 wide x 11 deep x 8 tall
