1917 Duck Navy Type Loose Coupler * Spark Era Wireless Radio Tuner * Excellent:
Make sure to check out all of my sales after you've looked at this one. I'm listing an excellent assortment of mechanical, musical and technological antiques this week, and I suspect there will be something of interest to almost everyone. Here's a Wm. Duck receiving transformer (aka loose coupler) manufactured in Toledo, Ohio ca. 1916-18. It is among the most handsome -- and most ruggedly built -- loose couplers ever made, and it has an original Toledo Duck tag affixed to its baseboard, indicating it was likely sold directly by the company and not through a third-party jobber. Condition is excellent throughout. There's some finish wear and light checking evident on the woodwork, but the windings are tight on both the primary and secondary coils, and all of the original binding posts and binding post nuts are present. Tap switch contacts and wipers are all original, and none are missing. All of the small wood screws are original, and no screws are missing or rusty. Hard rubber panel and knobs are all in excellent condition, with no chips, no cracks, no other damage. Baseboard is excellent, with no warp or damage.Measures 19" x 7" x 7". Shipping weight is approximately 15 lb.I'd like to note that while most of the so-called "Marconi Era" devices you see listed on each month were in fact manufactured long after Marconi was playing an active role in the development of radio, this loose coupler is indeed a bona fide Marconi era apparatus, built during radio's nascency by one of the leading purveyors of wireless gear for radio experimenters and professionals. That's about it. Iwill package it carefully and properly, and Ican assure you thatit willshow upat your doorstepin the samefine condition in which it leaves mine. I have been shipping antique phonographs and radios for years, and if you check my response, you'll see that I know how to do it correctly.
