Beautifully designed 1917 matching pair bronze art nouveau plaque and medal commemorating the orphans of WWI. Inscribed \"La Fleur de l’orphelin.\" (The flower of the orphan) \"J\'aide et je console.\" (I help and give comfort).The plaque and medal were issued to commemorate a charity activity held in Brussels in June, 1917 to benefit the orphans of World War I.Both in outstanding condition.Two pieces, as follows


1. A vintage bronze bas relief plaqueWith on one side a woman with two children and the text \"J’aide et je console,\" on the other side a girl with a basket of flowers and the text \"La Fleur de l’orphelin.\" Signed Devreese, also marked by the medal maker Fonson & Cie.1917, 60 grams - 45 cm x 62 cm, 2.8 mm thick - 1.77\" x 2.45\"


2. An oval medal signed by the engraver G. Devreese

The front depicts a beautiful young girl selling flowers. It is also inscribed with the words \"La Fleur de l\'orphelin\"The reverse features a woman with two children and is inscribed \"J\'aide et je console.\"1917, 6 grams - 3 cm x 2.2 cm, 2.1 mm thick - 1.25\" x .875\"Devreese was Belgium\'s by far most prolific medal designer and he was also known for his sculptures, monuments and fountains in France and Belgium. In 1885 he won the Prix de Rome.
