1920 Great Unusual Old Yei Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Churro Wool For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1920 old Yeii Navaho
weaving that measures 5 feet 5 inches long by 3 foot 3 inches wide or 65” x 39”. It is attributed to the Lukachukai – Upper
Greasewood weaving area and is in excellent condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a
primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and beautifully handspun
long staple Churro and Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp. Here is a very unique Yeii weaving. The three center lady impersonators appear to
be wearing full length robes of some sort that fall clear to the ground
covering their feet as well. The design
on their clothing is unusual as well for a Yei weaving. The border is particularly nice being a reciprocal
dangling triangle motif all around. It
is the only one like this (with the long robes) we have seen.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile out
of one of two big collections from Arizona just to offer you here on . It has a fine weft count averaging 32 per
inch and a warp count of 7 per inch. The
selvage cords are all original and in excellent condition except for 3”
repaired at one end (which is now excellent as well). Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft
selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners
are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. The tassels are all
four original and in very good to excellent condition. It is pretty clean now & comes from a
non-smoking home. There are a few small
spots of light red and orange color bleed.
Both sides are even in pattern color and shown in photos above. Colors are great in this piece of old
American Indian art and they are: hand
carded & hand blended natural grayish brown, dark brown to black, brown
& ivory white along with hand dyed aniline over-dyed black, deep royal
blue, transitional orange, old gold green and a light rosy pink. Complete with lazy lines and a Spirit Trail
or weaver’s pathway, this example of great Native Americana is ready to
display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in your private rug &
blanket collection.
