1920s Churro Crystal Trading Post Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Wool For Sale
Offered here is a great old circa 1915-1925 Navaho
weaving that measures 4 feet 6 inches long by 3 foot 2 inches wide or 54” x 38”. It is attributed to the J. B. Moore Crystal
Trading Post weaving area and is in very good to excellent condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a
primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and smoothly
handspun silky old Churro sheep wool, both weft & warp. This great old
Crystal weaving has a unique bold geometric center field design surrounded by a
broad grey outer field. Inset, in the
outer field, is a black & white spiraling motif border all the way
around. We just love this textile that
really says “I’m Indian” and feel it would look great on any Navajo weaving connoisseur’s
wall.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile out
of one of two big collections from Arizona just to offer you here on . It has a smooth, even weft count averaging 26
per inch and a warp count of 8 per inch.
The selvage cords are all in excellent condition with sides being
original, one end replaced and 8” of other end at corner replaced. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft
selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners
are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. The tassels are all
four restored to excellent condition.
It is pretty clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. (The whites have ivoried with patina over
time.) Both sides are even in pattern color
and shown in photos above. Colors are
great in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded & hand blended natural
variegated steel grey, ivory white and hand dyed aniline over-dyed black. Complete with lazy lines and a Spirit Trail,
this example of great Native Americana is ready to display in your own
hacienda or just tuck away in your private rug & blanket collection.
