1920s Hand Embroidered Panel Silk On Silk Chinese Collar Cricket Butterfly Gold:
An incredibly fine and delicately stitched embroidered silk panel, dating from the 1920s, and designed I believe to become a collarDepicting a scatter pattern of greens and blues, iris and other stylised flowers interspersed with butterflies and handsome cricketsBordered at top and bottom with peacock hued flowers, the insects are the focal pointsAnd that is unsurprising given the fabulous workmanship and rainbow colours on display in their executionI am not familiar with all the symbolism on display but I believe there are bats and lotus flowers as well as the astonishingly realistic grasshoppers and iris motifs
The cream background colour is a woven silk fabric, clean and the perfect foil for the jewel like colours, note the gold metallic knots andantennaeof the butterfliesThe incredible neatness of the stitches as seen in image 11
The collar or panel fabric measures 96cm long and 11.5cm wide
