1920's Ivory Lace Dress / Gown - Bonwit Teller - Satin Lined:
Beautiful timeless gown! In today's sizes it is an XS. The gowns shape will flatter a slim figure. Look at the pictures as you follow along with the narrative. I am showing all the detailing on the dress.
This dress was my grandmother's who was one elegant dame here in Philadelphia. This dress was purchased from Bonwit Teller, a store specializing in high end quality fashion with locations in NY, Paris and Philadelphia. This floral lace, satin-lined dress shows abundant work by seamstresses. As aheavier lace, it both hangs and swings nicely. (Dress weighs 1.4 lbs.) The dress has raglin sleeves. The sleeves are finished with a leaf lace of the same color, cut around the leaves to create an irregular edge. The sleeve edges and bodice are faced with a fabric mesh. The satin lining hangs from this mesh. The front neck drop is 9" from the inside neck, and the back falls 12". The overall length is 57". There is a side slit with snaps in the lining for easy entry, then snug fit while worn. The satin liner has been shortened with a single horizontal pleat all the way around. Easy to let out. But I suspect the pleat made walking easier, so I left it there. The hem is lined with mesh. The dress has belt hooks and a 1" wide lace belt ( on hangar in last picture).e
