1923-24 Music Master 14" Horn Speaker W/ The Rare Spruce Bell Vg Cond / Working For Sale
1923-24 Music Master 14" Horn Speaker w/ the Rare Spruce Bell VG Cond / Working
Very hard to find early variant of the classic 14" Music Master horn speaker ... The natural finish Spruce bell is very uncommon and was only made in small quantities which accounts for the scarcity. It wasn't nearly as popular as the dark mahogany bell. Based on the solid black finish for the neck and base, along with the side decal reading amplyfer this is a very early production horn .. Dec 1923 to early 1924 [Floyd Paul book page 19]
This one is in very nice condition ... excellent original finish with original Music Master decal on the side of the bell. The base and neck are the early black finished variation [correct for either the spruce or mahogany bell] and are also in nice shape [repainted but very nicely .. The crackle finish texture is still very clear]. The driver is original Music Master and clearly marked on the back. Original long cord with good, clean phone tips.
The horn works great with very clear sound reproduction. In the interest of full disclosure: there is a neatly repaired crack on the top of the bell .. see pictures 7, 8 and 9. It doesn't detract from the beauty of the bell and the original finish doesn't look to have been disturbed by the repair [see the close up pix .. the slight age alligatoring of the varnish is still intact].
This beautiful horn speaker not only looks great but is fully functional and can be used with any 1920's battery radio that utilizes a horn speaker. This very nice example measures approx 14" diameter X 22" tall X 8" base diameter. It will be very carefully packed [bell packed in a separate box inside the main outer box] and shipping weight will be approx 18 pounds [big box so dimensional weight applies] from zip code 24012.
