1923 Henry Griffith Solid Silver Thimble, Hm Birmingham, Complete With Case For Sale
DESCRIPTION
This is a classic antique solid silver thimble
featuring traditional punched dot / honeycomb decoration to the top and main
part of the shaft with a border of daisy wheels between two indented bands
below. At the bottom is a contrasting plain band which also carries the
hallmarks. The thimble is complete in what appears to be its original ‘treasure
chest’ shaped presentation case. The case has a leather effect outer with brass
or gilt metal hinge and closure clip whilst the fitted interior recess for the
thimble has a surround of blue velvet.
The marks are good and clear with HG&S for Henry
Griffith and Son of Leamington Spa, the Lion Passant and the Anchor assay mark for
Birmingham with
the date letter y for 1923. The size is 16.
An interesting and genuine quality item for
collectors.
CONDITION
Both item are in
good condition for their age. The thimble has a circular base and no dents but
there are two holes to the sides (in upper indented band), however, these do
not show when displayed in the case. The presentation case opens and closes
well and simply has light wear consistent with age.
