1929 Massachusetts Commercial Codfish License Plate 29 Mass Ma Fish Tag Nice For Sale
In 1928 Massachusetts had an embossed codfish on their license plates. The legend says it was put there to encourage the fishing industry. 1928 however was a very bad year for the industry and some blamed it on the fact that the codfish looked like a guppy and was swimming away from :MASS: on the plate. The next year a "real" codfish was put on the plate swimming toward "Mass". This is of course an urban legend based on few actual facts. What is true is the Registar of Motor Vehicles got replaced and the new guy removed the cod from Mass plates, but not before the run of 1929 Commercial plates was produced. Thus the only 29 Mass plate with the "improved" Cod was the 29 Commercial. The one offered here in a very professional repaint, just as nice as you will find. It is in excellent repainted Condition. The plate was a little too long for my scanner so there are two pictures of the same plate. See Picture.This plate is more than three years old.
