Hand-bound and gilt stamp-signed by SANGORSKI & SUTCLIFFE in full polished calf leather.Spine uniformly toned, otherwise FINE condition.
Original cardboard slipcase from the bindery is present.Binding is solid, and joints secure.

Aprox. 10" x 7 1/2".Tipped in color plates by Willy Pogany.Contains printed pages of black text with 12 superb mounted colour plates and 44 gold and black block illustrations with parallel black woodcut decorations to the sides.
Rare and highly desirable edition of The Rubiayat. Omar Khayyam (1048-1131) a Persian astronomer, mathematician and poet wrote over a thousand short poems in quatrains. Edward Fitzgerald first translated 75 quatrains into English in 1859, taking some creative liberties with the work. In later editions, Fitzgerald added additional quatrains.
