1930s Churro Crystal Tp Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho Textile For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1925-1935 Navaho weaving
that measures 5 feet 3 inches long by 3 foot 6 inches wide or 63” x 42”. It is attributed to the Crystal Trading Post
weaving area and is in excellent condition.
It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all
Native handshorn, handcarded and finely handspun old smooth long staple Churro sheep
wool, both weft & warp. Here is a
very nice old Crystal weaving with just a splash of red to really set the piece
off. The central concentric latch hook
diamond is finished on each end with a red arrow point. Red is added to the short latchhook chains in
each side field and 2 small red arrow points protrude from the central
motif. The inner narrow black ribbon
border is broken near one corner as a spirit escape way. Pepito sure likes
it. (Burro not included in sale!)
We obtained this vintage Native American textile out
of one of two big collections from Arizona just to offer you here on . It has a fine weft count averaging 30 per
inch and a warp count of 7 per inch. The
selvage cords are all in excellent condition with 3” replaced at 1 end and 4” replaced
at 1 corner. Warp selvages are 2-spiral
cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords.
The corners are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. The
tassels are: 2 restored & excellent
condition and 2 original but short to the knot.
It is pretty clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. Both sides are even in pattern color and
shown in photos above. Colors are great in
this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded & hand blended natural
brownish grey, ivory white & black along with hand dyed aniline cardinal
red. Complete with lazy lines and a
Spirit escape, this example of antique Native Americana is ready to display
in your own hacienda or just tuck away in your private rug & blanket
collection.
