1930's Kay Kraft Venetian Guitar - Unusual Shape - No Reserve - Kaykraft For SaleVintage Kay Kraft 'Venetian' Cutaway Guitar with Case SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTOSUp for offers is an interesting old Kay Kraft acoustic guitar that I believe is from the 1930's. It has an unusual cutaway body shape that I think is referred to as Venetian. It has an arched top with a round soundhole, and the top is X-braced. It's in generally decent shape for its age. One of the tuner buttons has been replaced and the bridge is non-original but fairly functional. There is a repaired crack on the treble side, and there is a small spot of repaired damage at the end of the crack (see close up photos). The top and back show the expected small nicks and dings from use but I don't see any other cracks. There's a piece of binding missing from the treble side of the fingerboard, and there is a chip of wood missing from the heel as well. I'm including lots of photos and they'll give you an excellent idea of the condition so be sure to check them all out. The guitar is almost playable as it is, but as you can see in the photos the end portion of the fingerboard that 'floats' over the body curves upward too much. That makes a lot of notes buzz once you get past the 5th fret or so. The rest of the neck has just about the normal amount of relief, so I think if you could flatten out the end of the fingerboard the guitar would play OK. The neck has a pretty chunky profile and the frets are in good shape, though they are the smaller sized ones like you see on older guitars, and it has an interesting old timey, woody tone. These guitars have an interesting feature that allows you to set the string height, by the way. If you loosen a wing nut inside the body on the neck block you can slide the neck up and down to the level you like, then you just re-tighten the nut to lock it in place. The guitar comes with an equally old case that I guess may be original. It's pretty rough, and the top portion has come unattached from the bottom. I think it could be repaired with a little work. Since this one needs some set up work and it has the fingerboard problem I am going to offer it AS IS / NO RETURNS so look it over to see if this is a project you can tackle.
