1930s working Kenney's Spinner Winner was produced by the J.H. Keeney and Company between 1939 and 1941, one of the largest manufacturers of console type slot machines of the time. This counter top machine was designed to capture the action and excitement of the full sized Keeney consoles! Players could gamble from one to eight coins, either pennies, nickles, dimes or quarters. Since the last coin(s) played remained visible, it didn't matter what denomination was used. Once bets were placed, the handle is given a tug and a light spins around under the glass. At the same time, the ODDS wheel at the bottom of the machine also spins! The light comes to rest on the winning number while the reel at the bottom shows the multiplier!
Spinner Winner was a big, complicated counter top game compared to others of the time, and apparently survived to this day in very small numbers. Very few Spinner Winners are ever seen today on the collector market. In fact, this one might be the only one you will see for some time. According to the authoritative guide to trade stimulators, Richard M. Bueschel's Illustrated Guide to Collectible Trade Stimulators Volume 2, when first released this machine cost significantly more than other slot machines of the time, and did not appear to sell well as a result. Bueschel says, "That suggests a flop, and a flop suggests rarity"! He goes on to predict that these will be at the front of the pack of counter top trade stimulator prices in years to come!
The machine could use a small mechanical adjustment because some coins miss the visible coin catcher. The electronics are all sound and work properly. It measures 16" long x 12" wide x 6 3/4" high.
