1930's "morning Star" Scrap/feed Sack Antique Quilt W/provenance:

Celebrity Owned 1930's "Morning Star" Scrap/Feed Sack Antique Quilt

Innumerable as the stars of night,

Or stars of morning, dewdrops which the sun

Impearls on every leaf and every flower.

Milton’s Paradise Lost

This beautiful quilt is one of many owned by Paige Palmer (1916 - 11/21/2009), nationally recognized fitness and exercise expert, broadcast personality, author, art collector, radio host, world traveler and fashion expert. She was called the First Lady of Fitness, Television Pioneer & Fashionista! She collected many things but as I've discovered, she prized her Ohio made pottery & quilts. Many were on display in the Kent State University Museum in Kent, Ohio. I had a few of her quilts a while back & now more of her personal items have become available. Last year I spoke with the curator there & she was able to verify that some of her quilts & pottery were indeed displayed there but was unable to help me with which ones. There is a fantastic write up about Paige Palmer's life on line:

Very nice quilt made in the 1930's in the "Morning Star" pattern. It measures 90" x 80" & is in very good condition. Hundreds of stars made with 100% cotton scraps in every color & print you can think of, all those wonderful old fabrics from the 1930's. You'll see blues & purples, pinks & blues, reds & yellows, oranges, cheddar, greens & browns in solids calicoes, larger florals, checks, plaids, polka dots & more.... all pieced completely by hand to an off-white feed sack backing. For some reason I had a rough time getting a good picture of the whole quilt for you; the close up pictures better depict the colors. This quilt is so much prettier than my pictures show you! There is no fading; the colors are still nice & vibrant. There are no stains & no fraying on the binding but there are some loose seams in the star, all repairable as they are not rips or tears. It's nicely quilted with 7 spi diagonally through the quilt. It's a solid, sturdyquilt with a medium weight 100% cotton batting.

Those of you who buy from me regularly know that oftentimes the quilt you receive turns out to be prettier than what you've seen in my listings. This is one of those! I laundered this quilt by hand so it's clean & odor-free, ready to display.

Please take a look at the other quilts that I have listed. I'm happy to combine shipping costs for you.

Item Descriptions: Please keep in mind that descriptive words such as "vintage" & "antique" means older or used; and sometimes come with flaws typical with age, unless otherwise stated in my description. Pictures can speak louder than words & are considered part of an item's description. I try my best to describe my items accurately & take many photos of each item so you have no doubts about the item you are purchasing. Your overall satisfaction is extremely important to me; however if you have a problem, please contact me and I'll take care of it. Full refunds will be given on incorrectly described items. The buyer is responsible for return shipping & any necessary insurances associated with that item. I accept Paypal and can accomodate other payment methods as well if you just ask. Payment is expected within 3 days of the sale's end but if something comes up; or if you know in advance that you need more time, please let me know. I will be happy to combine shipping for you. Only the weight & size of the package are calculated, plus insurance if noted in the description, or at your request.
My goal is to ship your item(s) within 48 hours, excluding weekends & holidays. I offer 3 different shipping methods: Parcel Post, Priority Mail, & UPS. (Priority Mail only for International shipments) Be sure to look over your invoice and choose the shipping option that suits your needs best. Please do not give me a low response rating for ship time if you have chosen Parcel Post as your means of shipment. A shipping calculator is available to figure your cost. NOTE: READ MY DESCRIPTIONS COMPLETELY AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE SHIPPING CHARGES, USE THE SHIPPING CALCULATOR. These are your ACTUAL shipping costs. I do not profit from them. By offerding, I assume that you are in agreement with these charges & you will give me a 5-star rating on shipping & handling charges in your response. I know that you would prefer to offer rather than Buy it Now, but because of 's sellers' discount policies based on response ratings, I may be forced into selling Buy it Now sales only so, please take care when leaving response so that I may still continue to offer you great quilts & other antiques at prices YOU DETERMINE.

Insured Items: Items will not be insured unless noted in my description, or upon your request. Insurance costs appear in my handling charges area. (I do not charge you handling fees so the amount you see there is for the amount of insurance only.)

About Me: It all started when I was a little girl.... Gramma gave Mom a piece of Flow Blue that had been passed down in our family, then she would pass it on to me. Gramma knitted, crocheted, & quilted but being a "lefty", I could never get the hang of knitting or crocheting so I learned to quilt & applique. My love of quilts & antiques comes honestly I guess. I am a "collectaholic" so I've had to set new rules for myself... "If I buy one more quilt, one has to be sold". There's just not enough room anymore! Several years ago I decided to leave a 25 year career in Human Resources Management & do something for myself... spend more time with family & friends, garden when this Ohio weather allows, & hunt for quilts, vintage clothing & hats, & other antiques.
