1930s Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho Textile Churro Weaving Nr For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1930s good old natural
colored Navaho weaving that measures 5 feet long by 3 foot wide or 60” x 36”. It is attributed to the Eastern reservation
or Chinle weaving area and is in excellent condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a
primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and nicely handspun
Churro and Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile on
a rug hunt in Arizona just to offer you here on . It has a smooth, even weft count averaging 26
per inch and a warp count of 5 per inch.
The selvage cords are all in original excellent condition. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft
selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners
are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. The tassels are all
four restored and in excellent condition.
It has never been cleaned, is pretty clean now & comes from a
non-smoking home. There are several 1”
and smaller very faint spots or stains we have not tried to clean. Both sides are even in pattern color and
shown in photos above. Colors are nice in
this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded & hand
blended natural grayish brown & ivory white along with hand dyed aniline
overdyed black. Complete with lazy lines
and 2 Spirit Trails or weaver’s pathways, this example of old Native
Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in your
private rug & blanket collection.
