FARMINGTON VALLEY PLATE
"TWO MILE BRUSH" HORSE TROPHY
CHAMPAGNE ICE BUCKET
Grape Cluster and Vine Decoration
From a Connecticut Estate sale comes this Fabulous Unique 1931 Ellis Barker English Silver Plate LOVING CUP CHAMPAGNE or ICE BUCKET engraved The Farmington Valley Plate, a horse racing trophy awarded to the top horse who ran “About Two Miles Over A Brush Course.”
The trophy was presented by Walton Deeds with what I expect is a unique provision...only the owner who wins the race three times can take “permament” possession of the trophy.
The backside is engraved for the winners of 1933 through 1937 with entries similar to “Won By Passive – Owned by W. D. Cleland – Ridden by D.K. Bassett. This wonderful memento of how the 1% lived 80 years ago, will be the talk of your neighborhood when you use this in your entertaining...put a bottle of white wine or champagne in it or use if as the most elegant ice bucket imaginable!
The top edge has wonderful grape cluster, leaf and vine mounts and
the large and sturdy handles are decorated with wonderful leaf and vine decorations.
The base is decorated with prominent grape clusters, leaves and vines. As shown, it stands 11 1/2” to the top with a 10” width at the top and 10 1/2” width at the handles.
Also as shown, this has the menorah mark of Ellis Barker, the highly respected Birmingham, England maker founded in 1931. Weighing almost seven pounds, this is in excellent physical condition but does have patches of blush where there is plate loss. I haven't cleaned the interior and am certain it will improve with some attention.
