1931 Wiley Post *signed* Vintage Wide World Press Photo For Sale
This is an original vintage authentic item originally from the personal collection of a New York newspaper editor. It is authentic in every way--both a vintage print of the image and an authentic autograph of famous flyer Wiley Post. It has a provenance through noted collectors, which will be provided in a written statement from me to the buyer after purchase and paments.
And Mr.Post autographed it with a beautiful "Wiley Post," the autograph being perfect and lightly cutting the clear matte of the photograph.
The newspaper editor personally retained the photograph after it was published and had it autographed byMr. Poston a subsequent interaction.
This is not a reproduction, copy or anything else but the original unique item. It is the real thing and you will own it. No copies or images have been made (other than to load on ) and none will be retained by me.
This is an8"x10" glossy black and white photo of Mr. Post in a group shot along with his navagator Harold Gatty on July 2, 1931 at New York City Hall at the conclusion of a ticker tape NYC parade that day.
On the reverse is a large purple rubber stamp, mostly obscured by a contemporaneous paper lable. The large purple stamp credits the photograph to Wide World Photos, Inc. and cautions against mis-use by requiring credit and cautioning against using for advertising.
Thepaper label has been affixed states "Watch your credit line: Photo from Wide World Photos: The City of New York Extends its Greeting Through its First Citizen."
There is a purple straight line "JUL 9 1931" which is probably the date that the photo ran in the newspaper. Noting a date this way was the art editor's way of leaving a trail for republication later.
The paper label continues "New York City, Wiley Post and Harold Gatty, Pilot and Navigator of the World-Gridling Monoplane 'Winne Mae,' are greeted at City Hall by Mayor Walker on Behalf of the Citizens of the City in Recognition of their Record-Smashing flight around the world in eight days after a triumphal journey up Broadway. Left to right on the steps of the City Hall are: Mrs. Harold Gatty, Wiley Post, Mayor Walker, Harold Gatty and Mrs. Wiley Post. 7/2/31.
This is a really super duper item.
I DO NOT believe the item is reduced at left as the full dimensions are still 8"x10". There is a small nick out of the upper right. The paper label has caused a SMALL bit of wrinkling, but not much.
The top right corner of the paper label is turned around--it is not missing.
An absolutely incredible item in overall wonderful condition--1) an actual contemporaneous print of the image ofthe Post ticker tapeevent; 2) the actual photograph used by a newspaper of the day to document the event finishing at City Hall; 3) certified contemporaneously to the event by the markings on the reverse; 4) autographed by Wiley Post - who died on August 15, 1935.
