1933 Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus Advertising Poster Window Card For Sale
Very rare, and beautiful, original 1933, Chromolithograph Paperboard Sign / Window Card from the “Golden Jubilee” Season of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus and featuring a portraits of the beautiful and highly talented Equestrian star of the Circus Dorothy Herbert!!
This wonderful and very rare, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Sign measures approx. 11” by 16 1/2” and is printed on a very weight, paperboard stock. It is printed in sepia tone and metallic gold inks - similar in format to other RBB&B Circus Window Cards we have seen from the 1933 Golden Jubilee Season. The image depicts he faces of both Dorothy Herbert and her horse Satan. Text above the image reads “ The Greatest Show on Earth / Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Combined Circus”. Text below the image reads "Miss Dorothy Herbert / World's Most Daring Horsewoman".
While we know that various Posters and advertising art was produced during the 1933 “Golden Jubilee” season of the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, we have been unable to find any information regarding this beautiful, paperboard Sign / Window Card. The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Howard Tibbles Poster Collection (the world’s largest collection of American Circus Posters) includes an example of this same image in non metalic inks on a standard, one sheet Poster but does not include an example of the outstanding Window card offered here.
This very rare and beautiful, original 1933 Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus Window Card / Advertising Sign is in very good condition - the colors are bright and vibrant with no soiling, staining, significant wear, or serious damage of any kind. There is some very light edge wear and some very light and unobtrusive creases but overall the Sign is well preserved and displays beautifully.
