1936 Poster: Roosevelt Dines On A Hot Dog Fdr At New Brunswick Picnic; Dysart For Sale
1936 news poster:FDR downs a hot dog! This is a rare “Illustrated Current News” poster, dated Aug. 3, 1936. It measures 12.5 x 19 inches in size. Printed on glossy paper, it is in attractive, very fine condition, with a short edge tear in its blank left margin, plus two old fold lines, as originally issued. (These Illustrated Current News posters were published 3 times a week. They were folded into quarters when they were mailed to subscribers, which were typically stores or newsstands which displayed them for viewing by their customers.)The poster presents a wonderful photo of the U.S. President chowing down at a picnic. He is eating that All-American creation, a hot dog. FDR is sitting down while he eats, but of course the photograph doesn’t show the wheelchair he was often confined to, but which was never shown to the public.Interestingly, I’ve seen a 1949 ad from the bread industry in which Eleanor Roosevelt was shown as having the hot dog be her favorite sandwich, and noting that she’d served hot dogs to the King and Queen of England when they visited the Roosevelts at their Hyde Park estate. The poster’s title and caption says:THE PRESIDENT AND A PROVINCIAL PREMIER MEET IN CANADAAnd who is making that bit of nes but President Franklin D. Roosevelt at a picnic tendered forty persons by the Chief Executive and Mrs. Roosevelt at Herring Cove, New Brunswick, near their summer home. Seated with the President is Allison Dysart, Premier of the Province of New Brunswick, who attended the / HANDLING TERMS: Add a flat $4.95 for delivery by 1st Class Mail anywhere in the U.S. Pennsylvania residents, please add 6% tax.International shipping is $9.95 to Canada, and $16.95 to other foreign countries.I normally mail items within 24 hours of receiving payment.
