1937 5 Cent Jennings Grandstand Slot Machine/ Trade Stimulator For Sale
What I have for your sale pleasure is an ANTIQUEO.D. JENNINGSNICKEL SLOT MACHINE/ TRADE STIMULATOR. This is a5 centcoin-op that dates from 1937. This model is an authentic (not a reproduction) model known to us collectors Grandstand was a 5 cent play automatic multipletoken payout machine that came in either baseball reels or cigarette reels as shown here. Small tokens were used that were smaller than a dime and couldnot be played back into the machine. It sold for $54.50 in 1937 prices. It was designed to givea gumball with every play and awarded 15 cents to 60 cents in trade depending on what three cigarette packs you lined up. This is a heavy trade stimulator that isalmost as involved as a slot machine. This is a much sought after old collectible that according to Tom Gustwiller's newest book has a rarity rating of a "B", meaning there are 25 or less thought to still exist. The 1997-98 Loose Change Red Book estimates 26 to 50 known to exist. So either way, it's definitely one to add to your collection. It's thebest and smoothest playing Jennings Grandstand I've seen. Now for some negatives forthose of us out there who are "collectible purists". The award card (paper) on the front is original and not in too bad of shape except the little rectangular metal framethat fits around the paper is missing.Probably this is a fairly popular size and maybe some other trade stimulator metal award framewould fit just as well as an original. The back door fits well with a lock and key, but it may be a re-cast. I'm not sure. The handle works well, but may not be original as I've seen many different handle types over the years fitted onto these trade stimulators. The gumball dispenser in front has been plugged with a well fitting plug, so no gumballs get dispensed. No tokens are included. These tokenscome up for sale occasionally- they're not real cheap though. And I'm not sure if this machine would dispense them properly either even if they were included and present. The reel tapes are in very good shape, but probably are reproduction copies, and I'm not even sure if these are original or from another trade stimulator machine. Once again I've seen manydifferent forms of these tapes over the years. The black paint is also not original- it's been painted maybe even several times. Anyway, that's as honest as I can be. This is a TYPE sale!!!! If you want a very smooth playing old trade stimulator from the 30's that is fairly rare and seldom seen- then this item is right up your alley.I really love these old Jennings Trade Stimulators. They are 76 yearsold (!!!!) and are among the best looking small coin-opcounter games in my opinion. What a great addition to your game room shelfthistreasure will make. It'll give many more years of enjoyable service to its new owner!! And by the way, if any of you collectors out there have a lead on one of these in really pristine condition with the baseball tapes and award card- please let me know because I'm interested- I let one go by years ago and have regretted it ever since!!!!!!
