1940\'s orig. CARTOON ART - lot of 7 Daily Mirror PANEL CARTOONS - MICHAEL SENICH:

Lot contains 7 panel cartoonsthat probably date from the 1940\'s (could be earlier) ... all areoriginal pencil drawingsby cartoonistMICHAEL SENICH for the New York Daily Mirror. I assume these were preliminary drawings that would have been submitted for approval before the final inked copy was done. All are drawn on newsprint and have varying degrees of age darkening. All show Senich\'s excellent drawing skills. Will be including the large manila original envelope that these were stored in. It is labeled in pencil - Cartoons Roughs, Michael Senich (this is Senich\'s printing). Please view all photos.
#1 - Boy sitting behind woman with large hat in empty movie theater (cowboy movie). Measures 11\" x 13 3/4\". Lightly age darkened. Pin holes in top corners. Top right corner slightly rough. Was folded in half at some time. Written on the back in pencil in Senich\'s printing - Michael Senich, Daily Mirror, Sports Dept., New York City.
#2 - The Devil with a pitchfork sitting at desk in hell looking angry / frustrated and surrounded by fire & brimstone. There is a fire extinguisher on his desk with small pitch forks in the corners. Caption reads : \"confound dat high pressure salesman\". Something else had been written in the top right corner but has been erased. Measures 8 1/2\" x 11\". Some small tears and rough spots along top edge. Heavier age darkening.
#3 - Two inept burglers. One kneeling before large safe scratching his head. The other on the phone with the safe company saying - \"Hello! Ajax Complaint department? Listen you\'ze, diss is the fourth time diss week, we\'ve had trouble wid one of yer safes -\". Measures 8 1/2\" x 11\". Moderate age darkening. Flat - no holes or tears.
#4 - Mother and small son adrift at sea on a raft surrounded by fish. Boy has a pole and line and asks the Mother - \" Hey Mom! Have yuh got a hair pin?\" Measures 8 1/2\" x 11\". A few pin holes at top. Clean, flat. Light age darkening along bottom edge. Written in pencil on back in Senich\'s printing - Michael Senich, Daily Mirror, Sports Dept., New York City.
#5 - Jailor confronts 2 prisoners playing clarinet and flute in their jail cell saying - \"Listen you birds, you\'ll have to cut that racket out if you want to stay here!\" Measures 8 1/2\" x 11\". Pin holes in top corners and a rough area in center of top edge. 3 light fold across horizontally (hard to see at first). This one also labeled in Senich printing on back - Michael Senich, Daily Mirror, Sports Dept., N.Y.C.
#6 - Prison guard in Warden\'s office overrun with white rabbits. He is saying to warden - \"Warden, I think we\'d better get rid of dat magician-\". Warden has a rabbit on top of his head. Measures 8 1/2\" x 11\". Age darkened, right edge rough.
#7 - Two safari hunters crouched in long grass being confronted by enormous dinosaur-like creature breathing down on them. Caption reads - I bet Frank Buck were here, he\'d know what to do - . Lightly written underneath is the word halitosis. Measures 8 1/2\" x 11\". Age darkened, left edge rough.
Note: I will also include a photocopy of a 2 page promotional piece (see photo) about Senich when he was in the Coast Guard - drawn by Senich.
MICHAEL SENICH was aCoast Guard Combat Artist during WWII andwas a member of the staff of the Coast Guard publication OVER THE BOWS. Senich later had a career in cartooning... he did SPORTS CARTOONS for the N.Y. Daily Mirror in his early years and comic features for Quality Comics including Specks, Sir Roger and Prudence. He also worked on the Sunday newspaper comic strip the KATZENJAMMER KIDS.***Please view all photos.
