1940's 46th Reconnaissance Squadron (VLR) Photo Album
This outstanding album came from the 46th/72nd Reconnaissance Squadron Intelligence Officer and covers the squadron's activities while stationed at Ladd Field/Air Force Base,Alaskafrom July 1946 to October 1948. There are approximately 110 black and white photos, mostly large format, taken by squadron photographers as well as some squadron pamphlets and various other ephemera. Several great B-29 photos both on the flightline and in aerial formation. Most of the squadron officers are included in the album with portrait-style studio photos. Also includes great photos of "Kee Bird" and the rescue aircraft "Boeing's Boner" and many newspaper articles covering the crash and subsequent rescue of the crew. There are a series of photos of General Spaatz, Air Force Chief of Staff, during his visit to the squadron. All the photos are ingoodcondition and labeled with white ink; however, the black photo pages are very brittle and have many tears around the edges. This is a wonderful photo album if you like early Strategic Air Command, and RB-29s (F-13s). Album measures about 16" x 12" x 2". Low reserve, good luck.
