Silver and Brass Music Shop is a brick-and-mortar brass instrument restoration and repair shop located in Carson City, NV. For more information about our business, please feel free to visit our Profile is an Olds Super tenor trombone (serial number 18710). This horn was built during the period immediately after World War Two, when Olds briefly made the bell wreaths on the Super out of gold brass rather than nickel. This instrument plays very well. This horn has a 7 1/4" bronze bell and a dual bore of .485"/.500". As for the aesthetic condition of this horn, there are a few very small dings on the bell as well as light scratching and etching in a few places - mostly around the kranz. There are also some wavy areas on the bell. The bell kranz reads: “MADE BY F.E. OLDS & SON, LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA U.S.A. SUPER OLDS.
The slide action is quite good, but there are some small imperfections in the tubes and if you are highly particular about your slide you may want to have these addressed. The stockings are in good condition with little wear and no wear through spots at all. The slide has excellent compression. This horn is not lacquered; therefore, fingerprints should be wiped off after use if the player wishes for the horn to stay as shiny as it is now; if they are not wiped off then the horn will develop a lovely patina. This trombone comes with a mouthpiece and a somewhat worn case.
